Onyx Cave is Arkansas’ oldest toured cave and has been famous since 1891. It is so pristine and untouched that many of the beautiful formations are transparent. Nestled in the Ozark Mountains just 6 miles from downtown Eureka Springs, AR., you will find Onyx Cave Park. The newly discovered area, “Silent Splendor” is hailed as a must see attraction in Arkansas. The bottom or end of these lakes has yet to be found. This was Arkansas’ most delicate discovery. One of the lakes was discovered in 1993 in the “Silent Splendor” section which made national news. Some of the trout have gone blind and most have lost their color. The first lake, South Lake, has had trout in it for nearly 50 years. Onyx Cave is a small show cave located about six miles (9.6 km) east of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It is the perfect temperature no matter what season of the year you choose to vist! The cave features a 9 foot soda straw, the longest known in the Ozarks, and 2 bottomless cave lakes. The cave is a warm 64 degrees in the winter and a cool 64 degrees in the summer. Cosmic Cavern’s cave tour is approximately a 1hr and 15 minute walking tour in the warmest cave in the Ozarks, at a steady 64 degrees and 96% humidity. Cosmic Cavern was discovered in 1845, but wasn’t developed until 1927.

Cost was negligible.Cosmic Cavern in Berryville, Arkansas is one of the states’ most beautiful natural attractions! When you are in Northwest Arkansas or the Berryville area and are looking for “things to do” or “attractions” Cosmic Cavern is a “must see” destination. Given the short walk inside, I would suggest this is a really good cave for beginners or families with young children who may have never visited such a place before. But again, nothing that was all that spectacular. The recorded guided tour takes around 25 minutes in all and there are some interesting formations inside. They said the cave stays at around 53 degrees year round, but inside, it felt cool not cold. 5 Ojo offers 9 comfortable guest rooms in 2 historic homes, complete with fabulous gourmet breakfasts and complimentary extras. War Eagle Cavern and Cosmic Cavern are famous, popular, and a half an hour or less from our Eureka Springs inn, 5 Ojo. Inside, the staff does a great job keeping the shared equipment, like the headphones, clean after every use. Onyx Cave isn’t the only show cave in the Eureka Springs area. cosmic caverns, dogwood canyon, great passion play, onyx cave, winery. The walk from the parking area DOWN to the mine is formidable, especially for the elderly and little kids. Treehouse Cottages, Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Ozarks, close to Turpentine Creek. The road towards the ends get REALLY narrow so watch your speed and keep an eye out for others coming the other way.
Eureka Springs Treehouses, Caves, Castles, and Hobbits. If you are staying in Eureka Springs, the caverns on right close by. Surprisingly, there is a lake inside the cave that has trees and forests. That said, Onyx has some things going for it.
